Audi has opened the order books for its high-performance SQ5 SUV, which has received a host of updates for its 2021 model year.

Audi has opened the order books for its high-performance SQ5 SUV, which has received a host of updates for its 2021 model year. Prices start from £56,600, but you’ll need to find an additional £15,150 for the top-spec Vorsprung model at £71,750.

The Vorsprung model comes with 21-inch alloy wheels (20-inchers are standard), OLED rear lights, air suspension, carbon-fibre interior trim, a head-up display, an upgraded sound system and advanced adaptive cruise control. Audi is offering a Brexit price guarantee, in which they will pay any extra tariffs if you order by 2nd December.

Exterior upgrades include new LED headlights, a restyled front bumper with larger air intakes, a new rear bumper with a rear diffuser and four exhaust pipes, aluminium wing mirror caps and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Interior updates for the SQ5 include Audi’s latest 10.1-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital dial cluster, wi-fi hotspot capability, a leather multifunction steering wheel and Alcantara sports seats.

The powertrain again consists of a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and a 48v mild-hybrid system similar to the ones seen in the Audi A7 and Q8. The mild-hybrid system includes a belt-driven alternator-starter and a small lithium-ion battery that can recover up to 12kW of energy from braking. In combination, the diesel and mild-hybrid powertrain give the new SQ5 a power output of 342 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.

Featuring permanent quattro four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the SQ5 can send up to 85 per cent of its power to the rear wheels when required. Audi claims the SQ5 can get from 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds and onwards to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. Driven more sedately, drivers can expect fuel economy of 34.4 mpg and a CO2 figure of 216 g/km.

Sports-oriented chassis upgrades set the SQ5 further apart from the regular Q5 and include adaptive steering, active suspension, torque vectoring and larger brakes.
